Labour pain is unbearable and can’t be managed

Yes, labour is painful. There are many ways to manage your pain that do not involve medication, including being up and walking during labour, as a well as support from a friend or family member or from a trained labour support person (also known as a doula). Medications for pain in labour are effective and have been used widely with a good safety record at B.C. hospitals. These medications include narcotics, laughing gas and epidurals.
