Birthing Misconceptions

02

If you have a cesarean once, you must have another one

In previous times it was thought that once a woman had one cesarean birth it was necessary for her to always deliver by cesarean. We now know quite clearly that most women are good candidates to safely try for a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Women who attempt a normal vaginal birth are in general 60-80% successful and babies are just as healthy! (Use our decision-making tool in the VBAC Patient Info Booklet on this website to help you decide if you would like to discuss VBAC further with your care provider).
